App to share medical data wins Blockchain challenge

Blockbird Ventures was considered the winner of the Open Innovation Challenge, promoted by the Portuguese Blockchain Alliance.

Portuguese Blockchain Alliance announces that Blockbird Ventures was chosen as the winner of the Open Innovation Challenge. Blockbird will thus be one of the companies that will have the opportunity to present their project at the Blockchain Conference on November 12 in Lisbon.

This fully open challenge sought the best solutions for sectors not represented in the remaining Challenges of the Alliance. Through this challenge, the Blockchain Alliance intended to give its participants total freedom to imagine, create and present a solution that goes beyond the other challenges, but that is a pioneer, has an impact and that adds value to any economic sector.

The winning solution was introduced by Blockbird Ventures and features an easy way to share medical data. The application presented allows patients to have all of their medical information under their control and to choose which medical information is shared with which healthcare institutions. The solutions presented by the Brain-e and MedSafe teams were considered finalists of this challenge.

"We believe in the concept of open data - especially in the health sector, where difficult access to data inhibits the development of new treatments and technologies," explains José Figueiredo, co-founder of Blockbird Ventures. "Our solution is to facilitate the access and sharing of duly authorized medical data among healthcare institutions."

"The three projects in the contest are demonstrative of the Portuguese entrepreneurs' ability to venture into 'never-before-navigated waters' such as the use of Blockchain technology in the health and energy sectors," says Marco Fernandes, President of the Board of PME Investimentos. winner is now responsible for being one of the leading projects in the development of this technology in Portugal. "

"The Blockbird Ventures project was chosen for the clear and integrated vision of a data-sharing model within the healthcare system. We are convinced that the successful implementation of this project will have a significant impact on cost, speed and portability of patient clinical data - creating conditions for better and faster integrated services in the health area, "says Paulo Lázaro of BGI - Building Global Innovators.

Rui Serapicos, President of the Association of the Portuguese Blockchain Alliance, says that "health is one of the sectors that can benefit from blockchain technology." This aspect is very evident in the solution proposal presented by Blockbird Ventures. solidity is a great success. As for the two finalist projects, we were very satisfied with the quality presented by both Brain-e and MedSafe who presented excellent projects. "
